Monochrome Style Downstairs Shower Room Renovation

The Client Brief

Our client came to us wanting two bathrooms in their home, in Olney, to be renovated. They explained to Jono, our designer who greeted them, that they wanted the two rooms to have different styles. They also explained what each room needed to have, too. In today’s case study, we’re featuring their downstairs shower room.

Following a home-visit, to get measurements of their rooms, Jono created two designs (one for each room) to present to our client at their CAD meeting. As part of our free design and consultation service, our friendly and knowledgeable design team invite our client’s back to go through their designs in our showroom.

During their meeting they told Jono that they absolutely loved the designs, and the only alteration they requested was to not have a digital shower in their downstairs shower room anymore.

Through conversations with our client, Jono learned that they wanted their downstairs bathroom to be a modern style, so he created a design based off our Modena bay (in our showroom) – which is very popular.

The Solution:

In their existing room, they had a conventional gravity fed low pressure system which required updating. Therefore, before the bathrooms were installed, we sent our Gas Safe engineer to upgrade their plumbing system to an unvented pressurised system to provide mains pressure water to the entire property’s hot and cold water.

Matt black products were installed throughout the room, to adhere to the monochrome style. For their shower, they had an Impey wetroom installed with bespoke laid tiles to allow for the water to drain naturally. They chose a Frame shower enclosure from Drench Showers. Their shower system was from Hansgrohe, again finished in the matt black shade for both the overhead shower, handheld shower and controls. A Roman shower basket was also installed in their shower.

This shower room was designed and installed with the purpose of future proofing it for our client. Therefore, everything was installed to allow for space of a wheelchair and to make it accessible.

Light coloured, large format, Porcelanosa tiles were used throughout the room, and behind their basin unit and mirror they had a feature wall of patterned tiles. In these patterned tiles were hints of blue, which was similar to the colour theme they chose for their upstairs bathroom.

They had a modern Bette Lux Shape basin unit installed, with a Laufen basin and a Crosswater mixer. Above this, an Origins Living illuminated, touch controlled, mirror was installed – all adding modern elements to the room.

In the corner of their room, a Dansani cupboard was installed, with glass internal shelves to provide storage.

Both of our clients’ bathrooms were installed in their country home, which had its own quirks and bespoke shaped walls. This was especially apparent in their downstairs shower room, so our tiler spent time carefully laying each tile, and cutting them to fit seamlessly throughout the room – as well as on their shower floor for the drainage.

Laufen sanitaryware was installed, as well as a Jis towel rail to complete their room. The towel rail was installed below an existing cupboard built into their room and was the perfect size. Finally, Origins Livings accessories were installed throughout the room such as the grab rail, toilet roll holder and towel ring all finished in matt black.
