Bedroom Ensuite Conversion

Bedroom Ensuite Conversion

The Client Brief

We had the pleasure of working with our client to create an accessible bathroom ensuite. The client began their new ensuite journey by initially visited the showroom and speaking with our designer, Chris, to assess if it was possible to add a level access shower room to a large ground floor bedroom. The physical bathroom space wasn’t pre-existing but there were water and soil services close by. A project like this requires extensive knowledge of the client’s access needs as well as the local services so that we could provide the correct solution.

Following a home visit to do a measure up, it was confirmed that the client’s bedroom was a decent size to suggest that they claimed back 1500mm of depth including partition and run across the room approximately 2500mm to follow the existing bedroom entrance. There was a window in the bedroom that would now fall inside new bathroom partition.

  • Designer: Chris
  • Average Cost: £££
  • Project Type: Supply & Install
  • Turn Around Time: 2.5 Weeks

Brands Used

  • Sanitaryware Roca In Wash
  • Basin Roca
  • Shower: Grohe
  • Shower Enclosure: Roman
  • Tiles: Verona
  • Stainless Steel Radiators: Grohe
  • Brassware: Grohe
  • Mirror: Origins Living
  • Accessories: Bathroom Origins

The Solution:

A full sized 1400mm x 900mm level fitted shower tray would be used to but would mean the entire room would be raised slightly. The client didn’t want the additional cost and complications with excavating into the concrete sub floor therefore a small gradient ramp was added to the entrance of the room.

In order to allow the client to have full working space in the bathroom a simple basin and pedestal was utilised so that a wheel chair could get close enough to use the basin. There was already plenty of storage planned in the bedroom so wasn’t necessary in this installation.

If you’re a regular reader of our case studies you may notice a difference in the style of toilet used in this ensuite. Fortunately, the main toilet pipe (SVP) exited directly behind where the toilet was going to be placed. The client also expressed a wish to include a shower toilet concept to facilitate with the inbuilt cleaning function. Roca have recently launched their “In Wash In Tank” concept which also allows the cisterns flushing water to be stored in the cowl of the ceramic, therefore removing the cistern on the back of the WC. This neat space saving idea met the client’s requirements perfectly so was very quickly adapted into the final design.

Project designer, Chris had made a few further suggestions following their list of requirements such as the options on the shower controls, electric heated towel at the exit point of the shower and tiling configurations. He also had to consider the existing window height and placement when designing this room and ensure that it was well balanced.

The full installation including building the external stud-work partition to create the room within a room with a fully tiled wet room solution was completed and decorated within 2.5 weeks.
